Empathy:
What Grows Here

THE ASK:

Empathy was creating an interactive experience in Grand Central Station for grief awareness month. The experience asks viewers to write message about people who have impacted their life. They asked me to create a animation with notes to inspire visitors to write about their own fond memories of loved ones.

DESIGN, ILLUSTRATION, + ANIMATION:

For the design, I wanted to avoid the cliche overly somber feeling usually used to depict grief. I went with warm soft colors to reflect the memories people are recounting in their notes. I designed the notes to look like origami flower growing and revealing the text written. I created the animation in After Effects, key framing the shapes to create the unfolding origami motion.
